Mission
The mission of the Health Care Safety Net Administration is to oversee and ensure that eligible uninsured residents of the District of Columbia are provided open access to condition appropriate, quality health care with an emphasis on disease prevention and community-based primary care through an integrated, cost-efficient, and culturally appropriate system.
Program Description
The Health Care Safety Net Administration (HCSNA) is the cornerstone of the DC Health Services Reform (HSR) Initiative. The HCSNA was formed and began functioning on April 21, 2001. The Health Care Privatization Act of 2001 created the foundation for the mandated functions of the HCSNA and its oversight of the DC Healthcare Alliance (DCHCA).
The Health Care Safety Net Administration has oversight and monitoring responsibility over The DC Healthcare Alliance, which is the new public-private partnership between the city and private healthcare providers in Washington,
DC. The Alliance includes Greater Southeast Community Hospital, Chartered Health Plan, Unity Health Care, Children’s National Medical Center, The George Washington Hospital and the District of Columbia Department of Health. The goal of the Alliance is to help District residents take care of and improve their health and their family’s health. The objective is to provide residents easy access to a vast array of professional healthcare providers.
Vision
To increase access, assure quality and improve health
outcomes for all eligible uninsured residents of the District of Columbia.
