Career Brief
Dr. Williams has been a practicing physician for
over 30 years. Currently, he holds a number of positions
at the Howard University College of Medicine, where he
serves as director of a course in health care ethics, an
associate professor (with tenure) in the Department of
Community Health and Family Practice, and an instructor
in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease. Dr. Williams
has also served as the interim chairman for the
Department of Community Health and Family Practice, and
as the chief of the Division of Family Practice. He is a
former medical director and currently serves as the
assistant medical director at the Washington Center for
Aging Services.
Dr. Williams presently serves as a member of the
Executive Committee and chair of the Constitution and
By-Laws Committee of the Howard University Hospital
Medical Staff. Since 1998, he has served as chairman of
the Board of the National Consortium for
African-American Children, Inc. Dr. Williams also has a
long involvement with health care in the District. He
currently is a member of the DC Primary Care Association
and is a prior member of the Mayor’s Health Reform
Commission, the DC Primary Care Task Force, the District
of Columbia’s AFDC Managed Care Committee and served on
the Board of DC Academy of Family Practice. He also
serves on the Family Practice Section Committee of the
Medical Society of the District of Columbia and is a
former Chair of the Community Health Committee. Dr.
Williams holds a Bachelor of Science degree from
Virginia Union University, a Masters in Public Health
from Johns Hopkins University, and a Doctor of Medicine
from Howard University.
Other Activities
Dr. Williams is a member of the Board of Phoenix
Pharmaceutical Company, and is chairman of the Bureau of
Disabilities and Injury Prevention Advisory Board. He is
a member of the Non-Prescription Advisory Committee at
the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research and the FDA,
and is a former Captain at the United States Army
Medical Office.
