Bureau of Community Hygiene

Legislation for Preventing Rodent Harborage and Abating Rodent Infestation

The Rodent Control Act of 2000, a new law establishing the Bureau of Community Hygiene, was passed by the Council of the District of Columbia effective October 19, 2000. The law was enacted as part of the Fiscal Year 2001 Budget Support Act of 2000 (DC Law 13-172; 47 DCR 6308). An identically worded emergency version of the law was also enacted with an effective date of October 1, 2000, and the provisions reproduced here have been in continuous effect since then.

In addition to establishing the new Bureau, the law prohibits practices that provide rodent habitat and specifies the procedures for abating rodent infestations. The rodent control title of the law is reproduced here for the benefit of the public. Please be advised that this is an unofficial version of the law. Please refer to the August 11, 2000, issue of the DC Register for the official version of the law.

Be it enacted by the Council of the District of Columbia,  that this act may be cited as the "Fiscal Year 2001 Budget Support Act of 2000".
