Employment Services (APEX)
Addiction Prevention and Recovery Administration

APRA formed the Project for Employment Services (APEX) in a broad attempt to equip former patients with the social and educational tools needed to secure employment. Individuals enrolled in the APEX program receive training and work experience that will enable them to successfully transition into the workforce. In addition, the APEX program seeks to empower participants as they achieve their ultimate goal of becoming successful and productive members of society. Initially under the auspices of the Department of Employment Services (DOES), the APEX program was established in 1997. After reviewing the population served and administrative functions performed by both DOES and the Department of Health (DOH), it was determined two years later that the operational component of the program would be better served under the direction of DOH. DOES would continue maintaining an administrative support role. Since its inception, APEX has positively impacted the lives of nearly 300 District residents.
