Aquatic Education News
2000-2001 Education Program
The Aquatic Resources Education Branch is proud to announce this year's education program. The program features many services that are offered to area schools. Services include visits to our Aquatic Resources Education Center (AREC), career day presentations, in-school programs, and science fair judging. Teacher Workshops
Last year's workshops were a tremendous success. Topics for last year's workshops included DC During the Civil War, Aquariums in the Classroom, "Get Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs (HOFNOD)," Native Americans in the Nation's Capital, and Fishing for Environmental Education. Currently a workshop schedule is being developed. Workshop topics for 2001 will include Fishing for Environmental Education, Aquariums in the Classroom, the Chesapeake Bay, and more. Newsletter
The Aquatic Resources Education (ARE) newsletter has changed. The newsletter, previously River's Digest, is now called Wet Effects. With a new name comes a new look, but the same great content. The newsletter is designed as a resource for educators. If you would like to receive the newsletter, please email your name and address to Sylvia D. Whitworth.

A new section called Teacher's Corner has been added to the aquatic education section of the site. This section features educational materials, which teachers and students can download.

Kid's Fun
A new section called Kid's Fun has been added to the aquatic education section of this site. This section features fun activities, educational materials, and more.

Research News

Citations
The District of Columbia's Fisheries and Wildlife Division awards citations to anglers with exceptional catches from the District's waters. To be eligible all fish must be caught by rod and reel, in season, and in District waters.

Licensing and Regulation News

2001 Striped Bass Season
The proposed dates for the 2001 Striped Bass season are June 4th - July 31st and September 1st - November 11th.
