Aquatic Education
The Aquatic Resources Education Center
The Aquatic and Wildlife Resources Education Branch focuses on educational and recreational programs. City residents and visitors can participate in several programs and activities. Featured programs include an annual summer program, fishing clinics, in-school presentations, and a tackle loaner program. Our Aquatic Resources Education Center (AREC) located in Anacostia Park, houses live exhibits of various local fish and other aquatic species. Groups are encouraged to schedule visits, but walk-in visitors are always welcome.
Scheduled visitors can be given a structured presentation on a particular subject matter related to the local environment.
The Center offers a variety of live exhibits of fish and other aquatic species from our local river environments. Scheduled visitors can also be given a structured presentation on a particular subject matter related to the local environment.
The Center is operated by the Government of the District of Columbia's Fisheries and Wildlife Division. The Center evolved through a partnership between the Government of the District of Columbia, the National Park Service, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
