Mission

The Bureau of Food, Drug and Radiation Protection is to promote and protect public health by designing and administering the District of Columbia regulatory program which ensures that the food, pharmaceutical and radiological products and services are safe for their intended purposes.

Program Description

The Department of Health’s Bureau of Food, Drug and Radiation Protection carries out four (4) distinct state agency functions:

• Food protection and safety;
• Pharmaceutical control of legally marketed drug products and services;
• Certification, Licensing and Registration of individuals, facilities, institutions and equipment; and
• Protection from overexposure to radiation.
