Mission
Primary Care, Prevention, and Planning surveys and reports population health measures, investigates and controls communicable diseases, prevents chronic diseases and their complications, and helps health care systems plan to meet the needs of the population. PCPP also collects health data to ensure that programs are meeting their stated goals.
PCPP focuses particularly on carrying out the Mayor's initiatives to reorient the health care system toward community-based prevention and primary care. We are committed to ensuring the availability and integrity of health care for all District of Columbia residents.
Program Description
Primary Care, Prevention, and Planning:
Provides leadership in health planning in the District of Columbia.
Serves as a health planning resource for policymakers.
Develops and regularly updates the State Health Plan.
Issues Certificate of Need.
Places medical providers areas where they are needed.
Designs and implements initiatives for the prevention of chronic disease and disability.
Provides free immunizations, mammography, diabetes screening, and numerous other screening and prevention services to District residents.
Investigates outbreaks of communicable diseases, such as Legionella, meningitis, and food-borne illnesses, and monitors potential epidemic diseases.
Maintains a program to study and prevent injury and disability, and programs to aid children and adults with disabilities.
Maintains an immunization registry that serves as a critical resource for schools, parents, and physicians.
