Mission
To provide outreach and educational services to females and males of all ages, for the purpose of eradicating sexual violence.
Program Description
The Sexual Assault Follow-Up Program provides:
Single and multiple sexual assault prevention sessions to pre-school, elementary, middle, junior, and senior high school students.
Workshops for parents, teachers, childcare, and other professionals who provide services to youth, for the purpose of supplying information about signs of child sexual abuse, how to appropriately handle disclosures, legal responsibilities of mandated reporting, and relevant community resources.
Workshops for the general public, which include risk reduction and self defense presentations.
Media and bus poster campaigns to increase public awareness of sexual violence.
Sexual assault prevention and intervention outreach/education to colleges and universities in Washington, DC.
Goals
To help children in the District of Columbia understand and avoid the threat of sexual abuse, and to encourage them to seek assistance from adults if they are being abused.
To create a social alliance of males and females to promote healthy sexual behavior.
To create “adult allies” who are knowledgeable about child sexual abuse, recognize the signs and are available as a resource to help abused children with whom they come into contact.
To increase awareness of the general public about sexual violence.
To empower male youth and the institutions that serve them to work as allies with females in preventing rape and other forms of male violence.
To implement a comprehensive demonstration project with a local university regarding sexual violence prevention/intervention.
