Ovarian Cancer Initiative
The initiative partners with the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance to educate DC women and health care providers about ovarian cancer. The initiative's main goals are as follows:

  • Reduce deaths from ovarian cancer by encouraging early detection of the disease
  • Increase the number of high risk uninsured or underinsured women who are adequately evaluated for the disease
  • Provide ovarian cancer educational materials to Project WISH sites and health fairs
  • Compile information on ovarian cancer, including local and national statistics, clinical presentation, diagnostic procedures and management protocols

Project WISH is Looking for New Service Providers and Partners!
The Project WISH network is presently comprises 33 clinics and hospitals across the city. The program is always seeking to expand this network to increase access for more women in the District of Columbia. The program also works closely with several community-based organizations throughout the District. Free Smoking Cessation Classes!
To encourage women to stop smoking and live a healthful lifestyle, Project WISH offers free smoking cessation classes to women enrolled in the DC Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. The District of Columbia Health Department Announces Passage of the Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Act
On January 10, 2003, the United States Department of Health and Human Services approved the District of Columbia’s request to use the federal Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act of 2000.

The Act will allow uninsured women diagnosed with breast and/or cervical cancer through the DC Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (BCCEDP) to receive full Medicaid Coverage for the duration of their cancer treatment.
