Advisory Council Subcommittees
Surveillance/Data
  • Reviews current incidence and prevalence rates for diabetes, the disease's serious complications; rates of disability and premature mortality; determines gaps.
  • Makes recommendations for improving the quality of data collection/surveillance included in the Diabetes Prevention and Control Program (DPCP's) five-year plan for control of diabetes.

Standards of Care

  • Reviews diabetes mellitus standards of care developed by the American Diabetes Association, various states and the Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS).
  • Makes recommendations of standards of care for the District of Columbia; the recommendations will contribute to the development of a five-year plan for the control of diabetes and its complications.

Community Intervention/Provider Education

  • Assesses diabetes complications and barriers to glucose control.
  • Recommends 1-2 interventions. Provides insight into increasing adoption of the team approach by primary care providers and managed care organizations (MCOs) in diabetes care.
  • Makes recommendations for community interventions and provider education to be included in the five-year plan for control of diabetes and its complications.
