Mission The mission of the Washington, DC EAT SMART MOVE MORE - Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program
(FSNEP) is to develop and implement community-based nutrition education programs for families with
young children, youth, the elderly and individuals with special needs who receive or are eligible
to receive Food Stamps. The goal of nutrition education in the Food Stamp Program is to provide
educational programs that increase, within a limited budget, the likelihood of all Food Stamp
recipients making healthy food choices consistent with the most recent dietary advice as reflected
in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and Food Guide Pyramid.
EAT SMART/MOVE MORE is funded by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) and with matching
state and local support. EAT SMART/MOVE MORE is a partnership between the District of Columbia
Department of Health, Nutrition Programs Administration and the Department of Human Services,
Income Maintenance Administration.
Program Description
EAT SMART/MOVE MORE provides adult and youth programs to increase food security, encourage Food
Stamp participation, and promote health and disease prevention among low-income DC residents.
